Omnipoint is a variation of the
tufting technique of manufacturing carpets/ rugs.
The machine used, consists of two needles that can be shifted horizontally
to form zig zag tufted rows which eliminate undesirable tuft rowing. This
leads to a formation of a consolidated designs. The first needle bar, having
a straight yarn feed, tufts the basic field. The second bar actually sews
the pattern directly into the basic field.
An infinite variety of pile heights can be obtained by using a
photoelectric scanning system that controls the thrust of the tufting
needles.
